Drawn from the permanent collection of the Portland Art Museum, this exhibition examines how photography has captured the nature of labor. The featured images span undercover depictions of harmful child employment by Lewis Hine, portraits of workplace pride by Milton Rogovin, and photographs by Ray Atkeson. Together, the selection broadens the idea of work to encompass art making, childcare, and physical labor.
