Art of Pahari India

This exhibition presents historic paintings produced between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries for the royal courts of India's northern Pahari region. On view at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the display features works created by hereditary male artists alongside double-sided embroideries by women. The collection explores themes of romantic poetry, music, and Hindu devotion, while also highlighting preliminary sketches and early colonial photography of the alpine landscape.
