This Walker Art Center exhibition features artist Martine Syms’s 2016 installation, The Borrowed Lady. Four inward-facing video screens set against a purple backdrop display artist Diamond Stingily performing movements inspired by online memes and GIFs. The artwork explores how digital media circulates gestures while reflecting on the prominent visibility of Black women in contemporary culture.
