Freddie Timms and Timmy Timms Major, the East Kimberley Bushranger

Paintings by Gija artists Freddie Timms and Timmy Timms examine Australia's frontier history and Aboriginal resistance in the East Kimberley region. Freddie Timms adapts Sidney Nolan's Ned Kelly imagery to tell the story of the Wagiman rebel Major, while Timmy Timms uses broad planes of colour to depict regional massacres that affected his family. The display at the Art Gallery of New South Wales addresses forgotten histories of violence and survival.
