The Art Institute of Chicago hosts Jill Mulleady’s first solo major museum exhibition, displaying around 20 of her paintings. Her work blends literary, cinematic, and art-historical influences, reinterpreting traditional genres to create mysterious, tense scenes. Working across supports like velvet and glass, she uses techniques such as staining to build layered surfaces that explore narrative ambiguity, instinct, and history.
