Mandala: Japanese Buddhist and Shinto Art

The Honolulu Museum of Art presents artworks centered on the concept of the mandala, exploring its role in Japanese Esoteric Buddhism and Shinto traditions. Presented alongside a display of Himalayan art, the exhibition highlights how these spiritual traditions share common origins yet developed distinct visual forms over centuries. Several of the featured works are on public view for the first time in over two decades.
