The Art of Mark Rothko

The Portland Art Museum presents eight paintings by Mark Rothko, tracing his artistic development across several decades. The exhibition displays early figurative imagery alongside surrealist compositions, showing his shift toward complete abstraction. It culminates with large-scale canvases from the 1950s that feature his famous, emotionally expressive blocks of layered color.
