Centered on José Aparicio's monumental 1818 painting depicting the Madrid famine of 1811-12, this exhibition explores how a once-celebrated work became a political tool under Ferdinand VII's absolutism and traces its rise and fall as an artistic icon. Comparative works include famine- and war-related drawings and etchings by Goya.
