The first major North American exhibition devoted to Vilhelm Hammershøi in more than twenty-five years, focused entirely on his celebrated interiors of his Copenhagen apartment at Strandgade 30, his home between 1898 and 1909. Some forty of the roughly sixty-five interiors he painted there are shown, including rarely seen works from private collections. At the Frick, the mansion's domestic rooms frame Hammershøi's painted spaces, and the Frick's three Vermeers, on view in the permanent collection, point to one of his key inspirations.
